Mrs. Mavis

     In this class, students will build upon prior knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, word usage, and the mechanics of writing, and include the four aspects of language use: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. This course emphasizes the use of language for different effects, in different contexts, and for different purposes.

     There is one formal writing assignment each marking period that will encompass topics from previous journaling, grammar lessons, and vocabulary explorations, as well as frequent opportunities to improve presentation skills aloud. We will also address units on narration, short stories, and informational text. While students will have ongoing opportunities to read novels independently during Reader’s Workshop, they will also be asked to read at least one novel together as a class entitled Touching Spirit Bear.
